Phek, October 16 (MExN): Sensitization programme on the harmful effects of tobacco and COTPA Act 2003 was held at 5th NAP Battalion camp Phek organised by District Tobacco Control Cell of National Tobacco Control Program Phek on October 14.


Speaking on the subject, a press release issued by Kutolu Nakro, District Media Officer, Phek stated that District Nodal Officer NTCP, Dr Reyosalu Lase Vizo said that globally 8 million people die every year due to tobacco related diseases. In India 3500 people die every day due to tobacco related diseases which are preventable.


She challenged the jawans to keep away from tobacco so that none will fall victim to its harmful effects. She informed those jawans who are willing to give up but finding difficult can avail the facilities at Tobacco Cessation Centre District hospital Phek.


Joseph Thongliu Deputy Commandant who chaired the program also called upon the tobacco user jawans to give up the habit so that they can all live a healthy life. Altogether 111 officials and jawans attended the sensitization programme.
