Status of Women Must be Elevated

“The highest honourable obligation and rewarding service ever entrusted to mankind is service to ones’ nation in the spirit of humanity”   – FREETALK Initiative

To be truly free, one must understand what binds us back. The cause of humanity has been much overlooked. There are many aspects left unaddressed or considered which when realized would make human world a much better place to live. Let us consider an aspect of co-human being; the woman and her actual fate so designed by default human society. Intend that, awaking our society and nation into the light of truth left concealed since ages past would put our people ahead onto the journey of progress and prosperity with the rest of the world. Construes  that  we must keep a pace with the transitional world.

The practices of dominating attitude, roles, and ascriptions of men over women have long been endorsed in the human society. It becomes a norm or customs or tradition and considered the guiding posts and structures which later gave ample support points for men to justify the patriarchal system of family and society.  These structures become a part of Nation’s culture and are zealously protected. Man made Religions come in to give support to it as divine injunction which empowers men’s stand on domination as legitimate or order of natural laws. Therefore, women’s questions are often ruled out. But, what reason or logic does men have over women in such an oppressive manner? Why should men be so cruel to his own companion and helpers? Human conscience might have gone absurd and turned bestial. This social attitude toward women must change if we are to soar up creating a better human civilisation.

Let us listen to what Rabindra Nath Tagore, the man of the past century had said for his society and ours today, “Women, you are blest, you have taken upon yourself the creator’s work and are His helpers. You open the way to recovery and ever renew the outworn world. Quietly and bravely in beauty form, you carry within you the preserving force of the universe  and for the fallen, the broken, the deformed, the gracious touch of the lovely one”

It is imperative that a movement for gender justice and balance is organised in which men and women should participate in mutual understanding of each other’s need and support in building up of a humane society. However, the fact that women oppression or exploitation is being meted out by men who are supposed to be the protectors, and lovers of women.  Therefore the fight against gender injustice is virtually against men in general. Nevertheless, all men are not convicted though classed. To bring about change movement, women may   take charge themselves; become aware of their plight and rights, then organise and then beginning to act on collective responsibility. The facts must not be left or ignored. Aware that, there are hidden reactive forces operative, working strong in the society; that is the mentality or conception that women are subservient to men by nature and they are to be silent or should not voice out anything against men folk. The fathers, brothers and husbands who are love ones, dear and near to women are always behind to control which makes real hard for women to move out for their cause outside their home.

However women must become aware that the fight for women’s liberation is not a fight against men but the exploitative system that entangle the mentality of men and general social attitude. If this is not well-understood, male chauvinism or prejudice will replace female chauvinism. Women liberation in short should aim at creating a balance society that will promote peace, prosperity and unity among men and women as co human being all equal in the eye of God. According to Indira Gandhi, She said, “To be liberated, woman should feel free to be herself, not in rivalry to man, but in the contact of her own capacity. Women should be more interested, more alive and more active in the affairs of society, not because they are women, but because they comprise half the human race”. If women’s right and their contributions are rightly given their due place in the society, humanity can thrive on toward greater height of excellence.

Men have fall short of wisdom in the past for ignoring the power of women for development of the society. Had men recognise or utilise women capability and capacity for good in the right place humanity could have been much elevated.  It is therefore appealed to all concerned citizens to think and act in term of looking at humane way of developing our society and Nation.  Women are appealed to take up the initiative to shake themselves off from their present oppressive bondage and work out their right in the spirit of developing the society and nation together with men in all developmental undertakings. According to Jawaharlal Nehru, “To awaken the society, it is women who must be awakened. Once she is on the move, the family moves, the Village moves, the nation moves”
