NVCO vows to fight against price rise in Nagaland
Dimapur, November 20 (MExN): The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) is basically a fight against the exploitation by some in the trade and industry as well as service provider and this Organisation is to protect the consumers from the same. The Organisation said that if the trade and industry and the service providers market only standard goods and offer quality services, the exploitation of the consumers would not exist. However, there are established business firms who really care for consumer satisfaction, their own reputation and goodwill. Even the Association of trade and industry also strive to attend the consumers’ problem by taking it up with their members, NVCO added.
NVCO, President Kezhokhoto Savi in a press release said that the maximum exploitation of consumer rights in the state of Nagaland is the charging of prices on different goods and services, which greatly affects the daily life of consumers. In other parts of the country during festive seasons, traders sell their products at a discount rate, thereby honouring consumer rights and promoting their business whereas in Nagaland the traders tend to sell their products at a higher rate during this Christmas Season. Especially the prices of clothes, decorative items, food items in the market are at a higher rate during Christmas season.
And moreover, there is no uniformity in price, NVCO official added. As the commercial hub in the state Dimapur has become the most important place for the consumers where prices of commodities both essential as well as non-essential are to be checked and required to be corrected regularly at all times for the welfare of the citizens. And this is the reason as to why the NVCO is launching the 2nd Phase of Consumer awareness Programme in Dimapur town on November 21 in a form of Public Rally with special emphasis in fighting against the Price-Rise in the state particularly during the Festive and Christmas Seasons.
The NVCO mentioned that prices were manipulated and that the goods were being sold at an exorbitant rate even at the Hornbill Festival held at Kisama every year starting from 1st December. “Business cannot continue if the consumers are dissatisfied. A consumer can be happy only when the prices on the goods and charges on services are reasonable and the products and services serve the consumers to their satisfaction,” Savi added. He also pointed out that “Nagaland is a state mushrooming with illegal collection of money extortion, fund-raising by way of begging donations and selling buffet and lottery tickets, moudi, newspaper, calendar, etc at a higher rate in charges/prices by student unions, public organizations youth and women association, churches etc and these were also the factors that contribute to price-rise.”
