Farmers trained on organic farming



Dimapur, March 20 (MExN): Central Institute of Horticulture, DAC, Ministry of Agriculture, GOI, Medziphema in collaboration with ICCOA (International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture), Bangalore conducted a series of training programme for organic farmers of Nagaland on the topic “Organic Farming and Certification”.
Training was conducted in Peren, Kohima, Phek, Wokha, Mokokchung and Dimapur from March 9 to 17, 2010. Altogether 427 farmers participated in the training programme. The training covered detail aspect on the package of practices on Ginger, Turmeric, Large Cardamom, Pineapple, Maize, Tea and Naga King Chilli, pest and disease management, Organic certification procedure for organic products and on marketing.
Resource persons include Seiyevonuo, A.O, DAO, Kohima, James, organic Incharge, DAO, Kohima, Dr. Anamika Sharma, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Dimapur, Meribeni Shitiri, Asstt. Horticulture Specialist, CIH, Medziphema, Lireni Kikon, Prog. Asst., KVK, Wokha, Imnaliun, A.O, SARS, Mokokchung, Vikas Kumar, Deepak Chaturvedi, Kikatemjen, and Lanuakum from ICCOA.
In Peren, a total of 50 organic growers of Ginger, Pineapple and Naga King Chilli participated in the training, where Pawan Kumar, Deputy Director of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland led the programme. In Kohima, Masen, Secretary (Agriculture), Govt. of Nagaland graced the occasion as chief guest. A total of 85 organic growers of potato participated in the training. Neitsosolie, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Govt. of Nagaland also attended the training programme. In Phek, a total of 67 organic growers of Large Cardamom participated in the training, where Sanozo, SDAO, Pfutsero, Atso, A.O, DAO, Phek also participated in the training. In Wokha and Mokokchung, a total of 125 organic growers of ginger, maize and tea participated in the training.
In Dimapur, Akali Sema, Director, CIH lead the programme. After the inaugural programme, she also interacted with the farmers and highlighted the objective of the training programme. A total of 100 organic growers of Ginger, Turmeric, Pineapple and Naga King Chilli participated in the training.
