Legal Aid Clinic launched in ADC Office Pughoboto



Dimapur, July 16 (MExN): Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) established a Legal Aid Clinic in the ADC Office, Pughoboto which was inaugurated by Peter Lichamo, ADC Pughoboto in presence of Member Secretary & Panel Lawyers of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority and Public Leaders, DBs, GBs & Women Groups on July 14.

The objective of the Legal Aid Clinic is to provide Free Legal Service to the villagers of the Pughoboto Area who are living away from the seats of Justice & the Office of the Legal Services Institutions. The aim of the scheme is to provide local machinery for rendering Free Legal Services of Basic nature like legal advice, drafting petitions, notices, replies, simple applications and other documents of legal importance and also for resolving the disputes of the local people by making the parties to see reason and thereby preventing the disputes reaching courts. In cases, where legal services of a higher level are required, the legal clinic will refer the matter to the Legal Services Institutions in the District and the State Authority.

Also another legal literacy & awareness programme was conducted at Pughoboto by the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority on the subject of protecting the rights of the women & children, Lessons in Law on various Legal Subjects, Village Council Act and Training on Para-Legal Volunteers.
Members of the Village Councils, GBs, DBs, Public Leaders, Women Leaders (STH Pughoboto Area) and Youths of the Pughoboto Area were the beneficiaries.   
Peter Lichamo, ADC gave a resounding welcome address thanking the NSLSA for initiating such programme in Pughoboto. He told the gathering that Pughoboto is fortunate to get a free Legal Aid Clinic and encouraged the people to grab the opportunity and use it for the overall good of the people of the area. The Legal Aid Clinic will be manned by trained Para Legal Volunteers and occasional visit by Panel Lawyers.

Mayang Lima, Member Secretary, NSLSA was accompanied by a group of Panel Lawyers who spoke on different topics during the program; Tongpang (Consumer Rights), Nuksungtila (Know Yours Rights), Akumla (Juvenile Rights), Jeviholi (Your Legal Rights under NRHM), Anungla (Right to Free and Compulsory Education for Children) and Alemwapang the expert trainer of Para Legal Volunteers spoke on who can be eligible to become Para Legal volunteer.
