A good care and management practices given to pregnant cow will give good calf and also high milk yield during the successive lactation. Some care and management tips to be followed during pregnancy of a cow are mentioned below.


1.    Pregnant cow should be watched carefully particularly during last stages of pregnancy to avoid abortion due to fights or other physical trauma.


2.    During last three months of pregnancy extra concentrated ration about 1-2 kg daily should be offered along with Vitamin and mineral supplements.


3.    About 8-10 days before expected date of calving the pregnant cow is kept in a separate clean and well bedded shed.


4.    If any abnormality is detected during delivery time, the farmer should seek Veterinarian help at the earliest.


5.    Placenta is normally expelled within 2 to 6 hours after calving but if placenta is not expelled within 12 hours then Veterinarian help should be sought.


6.    After one or two hours calving, the cow should be given warm water and wheat bran.


7.    Clean fresh water should be provided round the clock during and after calving.
