Naga students at Pune celebrate “The Fiesta”

Pune witnessed a unique one of a kind event on July 29, 2012 where Puneites from all walks of life came together to celebrate “The Fiesta”. Organized by the Naga Students Union, Pune with blog partner “The Naga Blog”, the event showcased unique Naga talents and creativity for the world to witness at the beautiful Kapila resort, adjacent to Dhole Patil College of Engineering. The programme started with a prayer by Naga Christian Fellowship Pune pastor Achu Chang followed by an acoustic song from Asang, and Tia. The first round of fashion show showcased a theme fusing traditional Naga attires with modern fashion which completely captivated the audience who cheered and roared with every model as they walked across the cool resort ambience looking ravishing in the suave blend of Naga attires.
A young Naga martial artist from Manipur enthralled the audience with jaw dropping stunts using spears to support himself in the air. Yanpvuo Kikon, creator of The Naga Blog before performing a song gave a short message saying “Whenever people from mainland India hear about the North East, they always picture violence and negativity because the media and newspaper always portrays the flip side of our region. If you want to see the real North East, you will witness it today in The Fiesta”, to which the audience cheered in agreement.
The second round of fashion show featured a casual round which showcased the latest trends in our present generation making waves in the Nagaland circuit. Michael Keishing, champion of all India Red Bull football freestyle competition took the stage and inspired the audience especially the mainland Indian crowd with his special talent. Next on stage was the young pianist Zubeni Kikon, an LTCL in classical piano and two time gold receiver at all India Music Quest, who performed a challenging piece named “Bumblebee”. In the final round, the beautiful Naga models showcased the latest trends in formals. Alem Konyak, a student of Fergusson college who is the cultural secretary of NSUP and also an administrator of The Naga Blog was the choreographer and stylist of the fashion show. Sagar Dhole Patil, chairman of Dhole Patil College of Engineering who helped in sponsoring the event felicitated the NSUP President, Peimingam A. Zimik and organizers for showing the people of Pune what the Nagas are capable of and hoped that the interaction and friendship will grow in the days to come. Other performances included MC Kiri from Assam and Benjamin from Mizoram who sang an original song “No One” which took them to the number 1 spot in Hiphop chart “Number One Music” from India. The programme ended with short video screenings produced by the Naga Headhunters Entertainment, Nagaland and a presentation about Sagar Dhole Patil’s visit to Nagaland.
The event hosted by Naga Students Union, Pune brought together more than 400 people from the North-East and the local Puneites including esteemed guests such as Dr. R.M. Chitnis Principal of MITSON, Dr. Kalyan Swaroop Dean of Executive Program NIBM, Dr. Sunil, a renowned neurologist in Pune and several other guests from other communities under one roof to celebrate the spirit of friendship, brotherhood and integration through cultural exchange.
