Calling all jazz lovers and Naga musicians

Simon Frick and David Helbock

JAZZ NAGALAND is a group of jazz enthusiasts who came together a year ago to promote and share Jazz among the music lovers of Nagaland. In their promotional venture, Jazz Nagaland is collaborating with the Austrian Cultural Forum, New Delhi, to bring the upcoming world renowned Austrian Jazz musician Simon Frick together with David Helbock for a free jazz performance and workshop on December 12 and 13.
The Frick/Helbock Duo will play at Saramati Hotel on December 12followed with a Jazz workshop that is open to all Naga musicians on the 13th at the Nagaland Conservatory of Music, Darogapathar, Dimapur. The workshop will culminate with a performance and jam session with Naga musicians and faculty members of the Music
Conservatory.
This exciting Duo stands out because of their tremendous diversity of sounds which bring the traditional lineup of piano and violin used in classical music into a totally new context.  David Helbock, a numerous prize winning piano player and Simon Frick a virtuoso with his own soundlanguage, are expanding their sound possibilities with unconventional playing techniques such as inside piano playing with sounds, overtones and percussive grooves on the one hand, or playing the violin  as a bass guitar with funky wah-wah effects on the other hand.
