Music hits the soundwaves in Nagaland
Kohima, September 3 (MExN): Over Rs. 3 Lakh has been set aside as prize-money for the forthcoming district and state-level music competitions billed as ‘Nagaland Music Safari 2008’ under the aegis of the Music Task Force, Directorate of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland. The district-level competitions will begin at Mon on September 9. In the district-level event, the first three winners of solo vocals event will be awarded Rs. 10, 000, Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively. In the bands’ event, the winners will receive Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 for the first, second and third respectively.

According to available sources, there will also be individual prizes amounting to Rs. 5, 000 each for the best lead guitarist, best bass guitar, best drummer and best vocals. In the state-level, the prize -money for solo vocals event stands at Rs. 25, 000 with a gift Acoustic guitar as first prize, the second with Rs. 15,000 and the third with Rs. 10,000. In the bands event, the winners will be awarded Rs. 50,000 along with Phonic Road Gear 260Plus, the second with Rs. 40,000 and the third winner Rs. 30,000.
Individual prizes in the state-level stands at Rs. 10, 000 each for best lead guitarist, best bass guitarist, best drummer and best vocalist. The schedule for district level competitions is as follows: 9 September for Mon, 12 September for Longleng, 16 September for Tuensang, 19 September for Zunheboto, 23 September for Phek, 26 September for Kiphire, 30 September for Peren, October 3 for Wokha, October 7 for Mokokchung, October 10 for Dimapur and October 14 for Kohima. The two-month long Music Safari will culminate in Kohima on October 30 with the state-level competition.
Naga Idol III is ON
Dimapur, September 3 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, and president of the Mokokchung District Art and Culture Council (MDACC) today officially launched the third edition of Naga Idol suffixed “3.08” here today. The launching ceremony was attended by members of the MDACC and Xtratainment Unlimited, an event management firm and organizing partners of Naga Idol 3.08.
This time around, the winner of Naga Idol 3.08, the organizers informed, will win a cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh and a brand new car while the runners-up will win a cash prize of Rs.1 Lakh. The remaining four finalists will each be awarded cash prizes of Rs. 25,000. It was informed that one out of three genres of music can be chosen by a contestant. Each contestant must choose one genre only once for each round. The XU has reserved the right to alter the schedule; however, contestants will be informed of any changes. Audition will be held in Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung on September 16 (Tuesday), 17th (Wednesday), and September 19 (Friday) respectively. The 19th is also the scheduled date for the arrival of contestants who are from outside Mokokchung, for screening. September 20 and the 21st shall be for screening for the Top 18. Other dates for the finals will be notified later on, by XU.

On a serious note, the organisers can put up public contest to name the event and the theme or invite suggestions.
