Northeast Baptist women looking to higher ground
Dimapur, November 9 (MExN): About 500 Baptist Women Fellowship (BWF NE India) members from all over North East India gathered in Imphal and declared 2010-2020 as ‘A Decade of Women for Change.’ This was after the end of a 3-day long program under the theme “Women in God’s Design.”
Women leaders gathered from Assam, Arunachal, Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland expressed deep concerns over the grievous situation in North East India. Reference in particular was made of the continuing class boycott by students’ bodies in Manipur following the July 23 fake encounter. It was decided to observe one-day fasting prayer for peace and justice in Manipur on November 29 in all the churches of CBCNEI in Northeast India.
According to a note received here, the program was aimed at preparing women to face the present day “development situation” as equal partners at all levels by sharing and expounding the ‘Word of God’ (The Bible). Many issues affecting the lives of women were discussed under various themes, it was informed.
The main speakers of the conference were Dr AK Lama, Gen Secretary, CBCNEI, Dr Limatula Longkumar, Vice Principle of the Eastern Theological College, Jorhat and Karen Allen, Medical Technologist & Educator, USA.
“Participants had thrilling experiences of an ensemble of Manipur folk dances, and gospel songs presented by Youth Ministry and Sunday Schools department of MBC. The conference called upon the Christian women to be rooted in the Word of God, extend helping hands at the times of injustice and atrocities committed against women and children and be a service to those suffering across communities and states,” the note from the organizers said.
Further deliberations encouraged women to be more aware of and explore God’s given gifts, abilities and potential for building up of families, church and society.
