Art & Culture, Tourism, clarifies on boycott
Kohima, November 27 (MExN): The state Directorate of Tourism and the Directorate of Art & Culture today clarified on the statements issued by the ENSF accusing the directorates of indifference and ‘misplacing’ a representation seeking financial assistance for a cultural festival.
In a rejoinder issued by Additional Director K. Yanpanthung Kikon, the Tourism department clarified that while it had received an application from the ENSF seeking financial assistance, it had not “misplaced” the representation as claimed. It also clarified that for extending financial assistance to any organization or individual, certain stipulated financial rules and regulations have to be followed. Also, the department reminded, without sanctioned money being available it is not possible to extend help on the basis of applications or representations alone. However, the department expressed regrets if the sentiments of the ENSF have been hurt in any way.
Also, the Directorate of Art & Culture in a separate note declared that “we are not aware of deliberately ‘discouraging or demeaning’ any organization or for that matter the ENSF, which is a respectable organization.
“If the discontentment of the organization is in connection with an application for financial support towards ENSF’s cultural festival, the organization was told that they can be helped only after finalization of the selection committee for financial assistance. Accordingly, the committee had recommended the ENSF organization also. However, the money would be disbursed only after receipt of the sanction,” it stated.
“Department’s inability to sponsor the festival substantially may not be construed as lack of concern or sympathy. However, if department had disappointed the ENSF in any manner we are sorry and it is regretted,” the clarification added.
