NEIFT showcases NE handloom
Dimapur, July 31 (MExN): In a bid to promote handloom and handicraft from the northeast, the North East Institute of Fashion Technology (neift) organised a ‘handloom fashion show’ at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur this evening. The models presented an array of fashionable garments woven with traditional motifs from the region. The event which started from Delhi has been hosted in 18 other cities across the country. This fashion event was hosted in Dimapur for the first time.
Parliamentary secretary for Industry and Commerce, Dr. KC Nihoseh welcomed the initiative taken by neift in organising the handloom fashion show. Nihoshe hoped that the promotion of handloom will bring positive changes in the handloom sector of the northeast. He also said that Nagaland has plenty of opportunities in the handloom sector as each Naga tribe has its distinct motifs in their traditional attires, which can be deigned and blended with western wear. He also added that it would be a value added venture as it would enable farmers to enhance their economic status.
