In a benevolent gesture, Dzülha Village Council under Phek district has established a home for the senior and elderly within Dzülha village. There are two purposes behind setting up the home of the elderly. Firstly, the council envisages to ‘show love, respect’ and take care of the senior persons and secondly, ‘to enable the youngsters to learn from them about the good moral values of forefathers, rich culture and traditional practices, which is slowly vanishing.’
Talking to this correspondent, Dzülha Village Council chairman Rüyovo Keyho said the home for the elderly will take care of the elderly persons above 60 years.
Besides, the establishment will be a learning ground for youngsters, where they can interact with the elderly and learn the cultures of folk songs and dances including indigenous games. Further, it was explained, ‘the villagers can also seek blessings from the elderly persons.’ One can also consult them pertaining to land dispute and other issues.
