Restro-lounges under scanner of Excise Dept
Morung Express News
Dimapur | February 11
Losing it at the gates, the department of Excise has taken the battle against liquor to the hotels and the restaurants in Dimapur. While on one side, prohibited IMFL flows in with impunity in this ‘Dry State’,
watering holes in town are now under the scanner of the department assigned with the task of controlling and checking banned intoxicants.
Excise personnel on Saturday evening conducted a surprise raid on some well known lounge bars (also known as restro-lounges), recovering and confiscating well over Rs. 1.5 lakh worth of illicit IMFL. The action may come as bad news for folks who frequent the places to wind up after a hard day’s work; at the same skyrocketing liquor prices in town. The raid was jointly conducted by a team from the Excise
(Narcotic Cell), led by the Commissioner of Excise; and the CRPF led by an Assistant Commandant.
The defaulting establishments, this time, were The Cube, Fusion Fuss and Escape Lounge located at Circular Road, whose proprietors were also detained. They were later released after signing ‘PR bonds’ but were directed to appear before the authorities on Monday. The seized liquor comprised of beer, ‘Breezers’, scotch and whiskey.
Meanwhile, the Excise Department has asserted that it will continue the battle against liquor and stated that such raids will
come unexpectedly.
