Divine Connection and all the Jazz

Morung Express Offbeat
Rock band from Nagaland Divine Connection has finally graduated. The national talent hunt winners officially released their debut video today in Dimapur, Sunday, February 12, simultaneous with launching the video on the group’s new website.
A far cry from the band’s heavy-headed days symbolized by Nagaland Hornbill Rock Contest 2006, which it stood first runners-up, the video may raise an eyebrow or two – worst, even pluck some out. ‘It’s Love’ is an unrecognizable version of the hard rock band that gave rocks fans in Nagaland ear-pulverizing songs like ‘Original Abomination’ and ‘Second Woe’ (both from ‘El Roi’). About three years since the then-unknown originally Kohima-based band released its debut album ‘El Roi’ (2008), the band went on to win MTV’s nationwide rock talent hunt ‘Kurkure Desi Beats Rock’ in 2010. Following the win, the band went on extensive shows across the country before squeezing in a minute or two into creating the video.
Add to the glitter here: The video is produced by Pritish and Puja Chakraborty, the ones responsible for pushing Alobo Naga & The Band’s ‘Painted Dreams’ into Vh1. ‘It’s Love’ is actually a Yay-Finally-Grown-Up product of a band that was born during the fall of 2004. The song is an excellently jazzy, swing-influenced ballad with a burlesque 40s’ twist – no rocks to throw or metal to chew.
Front man Obed Kath sings the title with a hint of 80s rock ballad addiction which all the band’s members grew up on.
Without much ado, ‘It’s Love’ is an exquisite pseudo-jazz appeal a rock band wrote in a $5 dollar Broadway bar on a monotonous Monday. The video will definitely please intellectual music enthusiasts, the sax addict, serious listeners and the odd vintage devotee too. Oh, they’d please even moms and dads – possibly for the first time since hitting major time, these hair-loving, shredded-denim addicted rock ragamuffins appear in neckties. And black Suede.
Interestingly, the hammer-and-nail lovers are the only ones who would be plucking their hair – and eyebrows – out soon. Check out their video at
