Muslim Council Dimapur to go for ID drive

Dimapur, February 15 (MExN): Amidst rising anger at illegal immigrants in Nagaland, the Muslim Council of Dimapur today informed of a registration drive of all “bonafide Muslims” in Dimapur municipality and other measures such as “control” over “prayer houses.” The Muslim Council convened an emergency general meeting of the community and all the Jame Masjids and Panagajana Committees within the Dimapur Municipal Council area on February 12 at the Jame Masjid complex in the city.
The “bonafide Muslim community” is helplessness, displeased and ‘very much upset’ at the way the “temporary migrants and floating populations not only care for the prestige and honor of the community but also does not respect and regard the sentiments of the local people, with whom the bonafide Muslim Community has been living for over 100 years,” the council said in a note today.
The ‘bonafide Muslim community’ has decided to undertake a registration drive of all genuine Muslim habitants in the municipality, the community’s council informed.  All the “bonafide Muslims” staying in Dimapur municipality are to get themselves registered in the Jame Masjid or Panjagana area in their respective ward or colony by producing their native Panchayat Certificates and also GB certificate form their colony in Dimapur.
“A 15 days period has been given to all concerned to produce Panchayat Certificate from their native village before the registration begins,” the press release, appended by the council’s working president A Rahman said. All Muslims are directed to strictly follow the resolutions adopted and the council shall be bound to take any step to protect the dignity and honor of the bonafide “Muslims as when the bonafide Muslims are registered then automatically the identity of the migrants can be established.”
Likewise, the council has decided that all Panjaganas (temporary prayer houses) shall be controlled by their respective area Jame Masjids. The Muslim Council shall regulate registration or establishment of any prayer house within Dimapur. The council has appealed to all landowners not to allow establishment of any ‘masjids’ without the consent of the council.
“It is also resolved to appeal the land lords/house owners to keep a verified copy of documents of his/her, profession and photo before renting a room/house to any Muslim tenant within Dimapur municipal area jurisdiction,” the council said.
Further, the council has also resolved to check the activities of ‘Kobirajs’ (quacks, fake physicians) and the Moulanas who give and perform other magic crafts. The council has appealed to the local populations not to entertain such persons.
The Muslim Council has appealed to the Government of Nagaland to “formulate laws for stream lining the flow of migrants al all communities into Nagaland with special reference to the Muslim temporary migrants, so that the bonafide Muslims can live peacefully with dignity and honour with the Naga brothers.” The MCD is ready to maintain a record of all bonafide members of the community through the Masjids and Panajagana committees of the respective wards/colonies, the press release said.
The council appeals to the state government, local administration, police, Dimapur Municipal council, NGOs, GBs, village and colony chairman and citizens of Dimapur to support the Muslim Council in the Herculean task ‘which is bound to benefit all citizens of Nagaland.’
