UNC suspends ban on construction

Dimapur, February 15 (MExN): The United Naga Council of Manipur has decided to temporarily suspend its ban clamped on construction works on the Trans Asian Railway line after lapse of the specified two months period ending February 15, 2012.
The UNC met in a presidential council at Tahamzam in Manipur on February 11 and took the stated decision, the UNC informed in a note today.
“The indefinite ban on seismic survey in Tamenglong district would also be lifted temporarily with effect from the same date. The ban had been imposed in protest against the lack of political will on the part of the by the Government to address the demand for an alternative arrangement for the Nagas in Manipur,” the UNC said.
The decision to suspend the ban was taken in view of the fact “it would not be relevant when the election code of conduct is effective and the election process remains incomplete,” the council explained. “The decision would be reviewed after the installation of a popular government in the present state of Manipur.”
