NPS officer injured in Sudan

Dimapur, February 19 (MExN): A Naga NPS officer away on foreign deputation as
part of a UN peace keeping mission was injured in South Sudan, now in the midst
of ethnic violence.  According to delayed information, the officer, Ben
Longkumer was injured on the leg when the UN peace keeping unit, of which he was
a part, came under gun fire from rebel forces while on patrol.
The incident occurred on February 1. According to the information, received
from reliable sources, only two members of the patrol unit survived the attack
while 11 others were killed. The NPS officer was one of the two survivors.
State Police Headquarters, when contacted, confirmed the report while stating
that other details of the incident are vague. PHQ also could not confirm which
part of south Sudan the incident occurred. The Naga police officer, who has been
relieved from active duty, has returned to the country and is currently in Delhi
en-route Nagaland.
The injury is said to be not serious in nature and the officer is under
recovery. He is expected to reach home on February 20. Before his departure for
UN mission, Longkumer was attached to the Governor’s Office in Kohima as a
Mobile Security Officer.
