YTC decries teachers result for Kiphire
Dimapur, June 16 (MExN): A local organization objects to the appointment of “only 31 Yimchungrüs out of 147 posts of teachers.” A Yimchungru Tribal Council (YTC) issued a press release today demanding nullification of the recent results for primary and graduate teachers for Kiphire district. The education department is asked to follow the memorandum of understanding signed in 2003 between the Yimchunger and Sangtam tribal organizations and legislators representing the two communities.
The YTC expressed dismay that “only 31 Yimchungrüs out of 147 posts of teachers” were appointed. This shows that the tribe “represent only 21% of the population” in Kiphire. The YTC cited the memorandum: “In the employment provision such as grade-IV post, 30% reservation to the landowner and the rest shall be equally distributed to the Yimchungru and Sumi basing on total population. Further, grade-III post to be allotted to Kiphire district shall be equally distributed basing on total population basis of each mentioned tribes.” The YTC has urged the Sangtam and Sumi “brothers to stand by the conditions” that led to the upgrade of Kiphire district.
