Woman nabbed with assault rifles
DIMAPUR, AUGUST 21 (MExN): An undercover operation on Tuesday, August 21 resulted in the capture of two AK series rifles in Dimapur. One woman identified as Moniya Kath (45 years) of Thesophenyu village was also arrested. The woman was in the process of disposing off the weapons (one AK 47 and one AK 56 with two magazines) at a place located in Purana Bazaar ‘B’. A second woman managed to escape.
According to SDPO, Dimapur, the operation was jointly carried out by a team comprising of personnel from the SoT, Dimapur police; Women Cell, Dimapur; Assam Police led by the SDPO, Bokajan; and military intelligence personnel from the Gajraj Corps.
The woman had already made a deal to sell off the guns for Rs. 3.2 lakh a piece, it was added.
SDPO, Bokajan, Subashish Baruah said that the Assam police had arrested two persons in Bokajan some time back, suspected of involvement in gun running with linkages in Dimapur. Aided with inputs from the military intelligence wing, the supply point was tracked down to Dimapur.
