Time for national reconciliation, Obama tells Rajapaksa

Colombo, February 6 (AGENCIES): President Barak Obama has urged newly re-elected President Mahinda Rajapaksa to lead Sri Lanka towards national reconciliation in the post-Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) era and heal the divisions created by conflict. The reconciliation, the US President added, should have the essential elements of respect for human rights and rule of law. In a congratulatory message to Rajapaksa on the 62nd anniversary of independence, Obama said for the first time on over a generation, Sri Lanka was not under the shadow of terrorism.
Obama said: "The recent end of the war creates a historic opportunity for Sri Lanka to heal the divisions of conflict, and build a society that offers equality and opportunity for all. For the first time on over a generation, Sri Lanka is not under the shadow of terrorism." He added: "I urge you to seize this opportunity to provide the leadership that will allow all Sri Lankans to come together and meet their aspirations to live in a country that is rooted in tolerance, respect for human rights, accountability, the rule of law, and freedom of the press- all elements essential for national reconciliation."
Though he won an emphatic second term in the January 26th Presidential election, the Rajapaksa regime has been plagued by allegations about the lack of the very aspects that Obama said could make for national reconciliation - violation of human rights in the last phase of the war against the LTTE, clampdown on media freedom and the lack of accountability.
In his Independence Day speech on Thursday, Rajapaksa called on minority ethnic Tamils to work with the government to settle their differences. He made it clear however added there would be no self-rule for them. "Hereafter, we will not entertain narrow divisions based on race, religion, language and political ideology in terms of regions," he said.

Humanity failed in Sri Lanka
The current plight of Tamils is essentially a result of the "ideological bankruptcy of the International Community" in not being able to find universal formulas for recognising righteous questions of self determination and liberation
They also miserably failed to denounce the Sri Lankan government's clear lack of will to investigate impartially credible allegations of serious violations of human rights and humanitarian law and to see that those responsible are brought to justice for too long.
Regional ambitious India and China's support to Colombo Govt is an atrocious crime.
Tamils are undergoing unspeakable hardship, and the monstrosity and nefariousness were only matched by the Nazis terror on Jews.
Is the world had simply closed its moral eyes ?....Failure to ensure safety to Sri Lanka Tamils is a moral disgrace to UN and India, and also a stain in India's illustrious history,"

Tamils in the camps are (forcefully displaced and forcefully detained) victims and survivors of the brutish genocidal war.
To confine them in the camps unlawfully against their will is to further victimize and traumatize them.
Tamils were not treated like victims of war, but as war criminals by the Colombo Govt authorities.

The world support for "War on Terror" was nefariously abused by Colombo to brutally oppress the minority Tamils and their long denied political rights.

Peace sought through the suppression and humiliation of an ethnic community proves to be elusive.“First brutally abusing the human rights of a people to shatter their spirit and then in the guise of restoring them blunting the basic political question is the trick experimented with Tamils by the forces of the newly found dangerous NEW WORLD ORDER ?

Colombo still seeks to hold back the truth. Tamils right for self determination has been brutally crushed by the Govt. Those who speak up and write are labeled as "traitors" or terrorist supporters, underscoring the communal character of the Colombo Govts and its war crime agents.

So far International community have questioned enough on Tamils struggle but not on recalcitrant and nefarious Colombo.
Unfortunate oppressed and fortunate oppressor.

"The end of the war resulted in some 300,000 internally displaced persons being forced into government camps. Heavy military artillery and shelling obliterated homes and schools as well as hospitals. In a United Nations report, it is estimated that in the last stages of the civil war 20,000 Tamil civilians were killed, mostly through shelling; 7,000 civilians were killed in the so-called no-fire zone up to the end of April, despite assurances from the Sri Lankan government that they had stopped the use of heavy weapons. On average, a thousand civilians died each day until 19 May 2009," Mr Murphy said, detailing the Sri Lanka's state's attack on Tamils during early 2009.

The UN called for a war crimes investigation, and Srilanka has flatly rejected the call. Press Freedom is a thing of the past in this government.
How does the US government say that it's time for reconciliation without holding proper investigations and without bringing justice to the Minorities?

President Obama's message is only half clear: end of LTTE terrorism. But state terrorism is unfolding unscathed in all its viciousness over and over again. Rajapakse says there are no more minorities! Problem solved. Besides what Obama says is like 'rubbing salt into an open wound'. We'll know soon enough.

Obama, like many others, know the visible violence of 25 yrs of the rebels. Is it difficult to understand the 62-yr structural violence of the state - Rajapakse isn't going to end it because he has just gone to Russia for more weapons!!

President Obama must know that no verbal advice or expression of concern on human rights abuses or ill treatment of minorities or media personel will have any effect on the regime of Mahinda Rajapakse. Not a sinmgle human rights abuse was properly investigated or any promise of reconsiliation was kept. On the contrary APRC and appointment of committees to investigate various abuses were to either buy time or cheat the people internally and extrernally.

Please urge the UN Secretary General to appoint a team to probe the alleged rights abuses, war crimes and genocide, only then, Rajapakse and his brothers will be forced to be reasonable or rational.

Barak Obama is talking to a person like Sudan's Bashir Amhmed, or Serbian president Radowan Milosovoik; they don't refom they are vicious and sneer at him for his weak kneenyed responses to state terrorism, genocide and human rights(of war)violations. Barak Obama is not properly informed of real facts like Russia who sell arms to Ceylon thinking there is still a war going on.

President Barak Obama, you are now a big disappointment to all Tamils and the people that count, not the politicians, all over the world. During the genocide of Tamils in Vanni of Eelam, the imperialist nasty forces tried to bring out a ceasefire at the last hour, telling that subsequent task of bringing about reconciliation would be difficult. It is impossible. Tamils will have separate Eelam!
