It will be a people’s solution: WC, NNPGs

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 20 (MExN): The Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) today stated that any solution to the Naga political issue will be a “people’s solution.”

A press release from the WC, NNPGs said that it had entered into dialogue with the Government of India “with the blessing and solidarity of the Nagas.”

“Any Agreement, therefore, shall be signed on behalf of the Naga people, with the people's consent and in presence of Naga Tribal leaders.  Post Agreement, WC, NNPG, assures the Naga people that inter-tribe discourse shall be top most priority on all matters. Our common pursuit shall be to eradicate corruption, tribalism and nepotism from all spheres of our existence.  All Naga tribes must be prepared to shoulder the responsibility of rebuilding the lost confidence and trust within us irrespective of the artificial boundary that seperates us,” it added.

It informed that the Government of India and the WC, NNPGs "Agreed Position" on November 17, 2017 declares that the "GoI recognises the right of the Nagas to self determine their future in consonance with their distinct identity..."

“Despite the irreversible historic document placed before the Naga people, Nagaland is in the grip of confusion and distortion of reality. So much is being circulated in the visual and social media accusing WC, NNPGs of accepting economic and financial packages,” it lamented.

It refuted such allegations and stated that “not a penny has been accepted from GoI from the first round of negotiation till up-to-date and will not be accepted till solution arrive.”

The WC, NNPGs said that the Naga people’s “generosity, contribution and prayer support has taken us thus far.” It meanwhile termed attempts to devalue and demean the impending Indo-Naga political solution as “very unfortunate.”

Further, the committee made clear that “the solution is not confined to Nagaland state. It is equally for Naga people across our ancestral land.” It said that the solidarity and prayer support of Tribal Hohos, civil societies, GBs, Churches and peace mediators and common citizens as equal partners “stands testimony against any false propaganda.”

Transparency, it claimed, “has been WCs strength throughout,” adding that “we thrive on Naga tribes’ opinion and advice, and will remain so in all future endeavours.”

The committee further expressed confidence that a morally, spiritually, socially, politically and economically strong and vibrant Nagaland will, “unquestionably, determine the pace and progress of remaining unresolved issues between GoI and Nagas.”

It asserted that the first step towards Naga integration and self determination would be to “understand political realities in our time.”
