The All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organization (AJYWO) has called for police, 'nokmas' and the 'dorbar shnongs' to be vigilant against the entry of 'outsiders' into Meghalaya in the wake of 14 foreigners being arrested in East Jaintia Hills (EJH) district recently.

The AJYWO also said that this vigilance gains more significance after the release of the final list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam where over 19 lakh people were excluded.

“The police, the dorbar shnongs and the nokmas have to act and work alertly, wisely, actively and faithfully together hand in hand now, to detect and identify whether there are any illegal residents or settlers or labourers in our land,” AJYWO president MH Dkhar said on Tuesday.

He also said that the identity, credentials and legality of each and every resident or settler or labourer in the state has to be examined and if such illegal immigrants are found, the course of the relevant laws of the land have to be fully and accordingly applied against them.

The AJYWO has also demanded that the state government immediately constitutes the long pending District Task Force incorporated in Section 5 of the MRSS Act 2016.
