DIMAPUR, AUGUST 22 (MExN): The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), in pursuance with the directive issued by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), has directed all concerned stakeholders to follow the following guidelines for idol immersion.
In a notification, the KMC has directed for use of eco-friendly idols with herbal colors or biodegradable chemical dyes and immersion of idols would be done only at designated idol immersion locations/places.
The KMC has also prohibited burning of solid waste at the idol immersion areas. It also directed that arrangements be made for construction of temporary confined ponds with necessary provision.
The notification has been issued keeping in mind the immersion of idol during Ganesh Chatruthi Utsava & Durga Puja celebrations during the month of September and October in water bodies which leads to deterioration of water quality.
