Naga scholars advised to do qualitative research works
Dimapur, October 24 (MExN): A state level workshop on ‘methodology of social science’ was successfully conducted in Nagaland University, Lumami from October 22 to 23, 2009. The workshop was sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) in collaboration with Nagaland University, Department of Sociology. This was the second ICSSR sponsored program in NU conducted by Department of Sociology after 2006 program.
Prof. K. Kannan Vice Chancellor Nagaland University speaking as chief guest advised the budding Naga scholars from different departments to carry out qualitative research works. Dr. C.J. Thomas, Director ISCCR-NER Shillong and Dr. (Mrs) Sanchita Dutta, Deputy Director I/C of NER research program from New Delhi delivered lectures on the occasion. “They were happy to announce to carry out various ICSSR funded research programs in Nagaland where research scholars and academicians from Nagaland state should come forward to carry out those programs in future,” said Prof. A. Lanunungang, Course Coordinator, Department of Sociology, NU.
Professor P. Lal, Dean of Science was the chief guest on the valedictory function. Over 41 participants took active part in the workshop from various departments and colleges including participant from department of Art and Culture, Government of Nagaland. 14 resource persons from different disciplines delivered lectures on different topics on research methodology. Department of Sociology, NU in a press release has announced that they will be ever ready to extent their help to the needy state departments/organizations/institutions and scholars who are in need of skills on social science research methodology in future.
