ARSH to be an interesting component under RCH

Dimapur, November 8 (MExN): A district-level Trainer training on Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health Service (ARSH) for medical officers and nurses, organised by RCH/NRHM, Health & Family Welfare, was held from November 4 to 6 at the conference hall of the Dimapur Circuit House.
Welcoming the participants on the first day, Dr. Watikala, Jt. Director of RCH/NRHM, H&FW, said that nothing much has been done in the field of adolescent’s health in the state so far, and therefore, there is a dire need to penetrate these group of people who are being neglected. She also informed that the Youth Friendly Service Clinic established in Dimapur will be now called as Youth Friendly Centre as there have been lots of misinterpretations regarding the same, informed a release issued by the NRHM.

Dr. Watikala further appealed to the participants to take the opportunity and learn, revealing that ARSH is going to be a very interesting component under RCH. In addition, she encouraged, the trainer participants were going to be master trainers in their respective districts.
Dr. P K Goswami from MAMTA Institute, New Delhi, also one of the resource persons, interacted with the participants and said that ARSH is going to be a very exciting programme under RCH, and that there is a new branch of medicine coming up for it. Along with Dr. Goswami and Dr. Watikala was Dr. Imotemsu, Gynae & Obst. at NHAK, as resource person at the three days’ training.
During the training, the participants dwelled on subjects such as sexual growth and development during adolescents, communicating with them, making service friendly for them, nutrition, contraceptive, etc. Nagaland is the first state in the North East to implement the ARSH Programme in a phased manner. This batch of training for trainers is for the district of Mokokchung, Tuensang and Kohima. The first batch was organised for Dimapur district in the month of April 2009.
