Students try to secure education for underprivileged children
Dimapur | December 1: The Christian Higher Secondary School (CHSS) children and their mentor teacher, Laisen Aier, who participated in the National school contest ‘Design for giving’, in a meet with The Morung Express reveal that being one of the top 20 winners for India’s biggest social change contest is not the end. Their entry titled ‘A gift that keeps on giving’ was one of the winning entries from among 1300 entries from schools all over India.

Laisen Aier : 9856744488The students along with their mentor teacher are visiting an evening school for underprivileged children run by the Transformation Resource Centre who gives them free basic education at the Bronson School, Burma Camp. Bronson School allows TRC to use their school premises and facilities from 2pm to 5pm. The CHSS students had hosted a special day for these children and treated them to a special meal and also handed over gift bags. Through this gesture, they tried to encourage these children on the importance of education and gave encouraging words to attend classes regularly.
The CHSS troop now would like to give a select group of these children an opportunity to pursue education. Laisen Aier, the mentor teacher, points to these children and says, “We have selected the most consistent, enthusiastic and capable children and would like to try and provide them access to education which would provide a better life for them.”
Laisen also admits that although she would like to give a chance to every one of the kids, there are not enough funds for a single child, let alone all of them. Kids for Worship Centre has already pledged one year of music classes to a child, while Hope Centre for Excellence has also pledged art classes for a child.
The student group does not want to just end their project here but is determined to work towards raising funds for these children and secure education for them. For this, they call upon all individuals, churches, organisations and well-wishers who would like to donate whatever they would like to and help secure a better life for these underprivileged children.
