Kohima Night Carnival begins
Kohima, December 1 (MExN): Kohima Night Carnival as part of the ‘Hornbill Festival – Festival of Festivals’ has made a colourful start here this evening. During the Night Carnival, shops will remain open longer than usual in areas from the BOC to High School junction, while in the heart of the town, the stretch from Phool Bari (Y-Junction) to Razhu Point will be a “pedestrian only” street between 4:00pm to 8:00pm.
This gala event is being held under the aegis of the Kohima Chamber of Commence & Industries (KCCI) with the support of the state government. To continue till December 7, the Carnival is primarily designed for families for shopping and merrymaking. The weeklong Carnival will be marked by street entertainments such as performances by dancers, solo vocalists, guitarists and violinists, Christmas carols and roadside food stalls featuring ethnic to international delicacies. A bonus for the visitors at large during the Carnival will be discounts on petrol & LPG. However, discount on LPG will be on new connections only.
According to the KCCI, adequate security has been assured by the district administration. To assist and help the visitors, KCCI volunteers along with the Kohima Village Youth Organisation will be taking rounds in the entire stretch. Revellers visiting the Carnival in the main town can park their vehicles at the local ground where the volunteers will man the parking lot, according to KCCI. Meanwhile, the KCCI has also welcomed one and all to the Carnival to make the event a grand success.
