Mokokchung, February 11 (MExN): Network of Mokokchung District People Living with HIV/AIDS (NMP+) has resolved at its 4th Annual General Meeting held on February 10 to take stringent action against any PLHA intentionally spreading HIV or infecting people with HIV.
Mokokchung NMP+ President, Toshi Sangpi and General Secretary, T Temsu Jamir in a joint press release said that the NMP+ members after prolonged deliberation in the meeting resolved to take stringent action against any PLHA found intentionally infecting people with HIV. This decision was taken after NMP+ members observed that sex has been the main route of transmission and therefore would be on the watch out especially for any PLHA engaging in sexual activity with non-infected people without having disclosed their HIV status.
The meeting also resolved to maintain “Samaritan Fund” through donations from members to help any PLHA facing health problems or going through difficult times. The “Samaritan Fund” would also be supplemented with profits from a shop the network decided to maintain. Further, the Annual General Meeting nominated Rongsenla as a board member of the network.
Earlier, President NMP+ Toshi Sangpi delivering the Key Note Address at the meeting urged members to be powerful agents in the fight against HIV/AIDS and encouraged them to share information with the general public on prevention of HIV infection. Stressing that overcoming feelings of self-stigma and discrimination are crucial for PLHA for positive living and to contribute to society, he said, “We can help society contain HIV/AIDS only after cleaning our hearths first”.
Counsellor OST IMDH, Mokokchung Burkumla while exhorting the meeting challenged members “to have determination to contribute and help the network achieve unrealised goals in the fight against HIV/AIDS.” She said that every PLHA is like a missionary when they contribute in the fight against HIV/AIDs through helping fellow PLHA with counseling, referral, etc.
Besides, there was presentation of annual report, stock report, auditors report, Mid-Way home, etc by NMP+ General Secretary T. Temsu Jamir. A minute’s silence was observed in memory of PLHA who had passed away. Food and nutritional items were distributed to the members after the end of the meeting.
