Training on IWMP
Dimapur, February 12 (MExN): An orientation training on Integrated Watershed Management Programme(IWMP) was conducted at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall by the Department of Land Resources, Kiphire on February 9, 2012. The programme was attended by members from Self Help Groups, Watershed Committees and beneficiaries from 21 villages under Kiphire district. The main objectives of IWMP are to restore the ecological balance by harnessing, conserving and developing degraded natural resources such as soil, vegetative cover and water, thereby improving the economy of the rural populace.
District Project Officer Ahozhe Sumi in his keynote address called upon the villages to sincerely utilize the opportunities so as to derive maximum benefits from the project. He stressed on the needs and importance of watershed that affects the people in every walk of life. The sustained productivity of food, fodder, timber and water can be ensured only by the management of precious natural resources of land, water and vegetation.
Concept of watershed management was highlighted by Puthuto Natso, Asst. Project Officer and Watershed Development Team (WDT) Members Dr.Vilie on the importance of livestock management, Imtitoshi on mobilization of SHGs and book keeping by Temsutoshi.
