Mariani Ao Baptist Arogotsur Silver Jubilee celebrated

Dimapur, February 19 (MExN): Two days celebration of the Silver Jubilee of Mariani Ao Baptist Arogotsur (Women Department) was held here from February 18-19, 2012 at Mariani Ao Baptist Church.

The Jubilee celebration is significant because in the early ‘50s the Ao Naga community who were settled in and around Mariani-Jorhat areas by virtue of employment mostly in the Assam tea gardens in health sector as nurses had initiated founding church and later the women department had too expanded its wing. The women department of Mariani Ao Baptist Church was founded in the year 1987; today it has about 22 Ao Naga families in its fold.

The celebration kick started yesterday with Tajungla, Pastor, Jorhat Ao Baptist Church as the main speaker. A large number of delegates from the neighbouring churches have attended the function. Ironically, the church is a constituent member church under Tsurangkong Arogo Tenzüker Telongjem (TATT) and affiliated to Ao Baptist Arogo Mundang (ABAM).
A host of women church leaders were honoured some even posthumously for their brilliant and sincere dedication for uplifting and upholding the church thus far in today’s devotional cum Jubilee service. To mark the occasion a more meaningful beginning, a souvenir was brought out which was dedicated by Temsula, Secretary, ABTM Impur who was main speaker in today’s closing service.

Secretary ABTM Temsula was amazed to see the beautiful work done to glorify the work of God by a very small group of Ao Naga families in a foreign land. She asked the members present to further devote oneself more meaningfully to God and to one’s own society in spreading the work of God. She encouraged the womenfolk to be more dedicated in whatever vocation they are and always follow the path desired by the Scripture. She exhorted that the believers living in Assam valley needs awakening and its time we collectively extend help through all possible ways.
Watitoshi, Associate Pastor DABA, M. Tiyong Longkumer, all former pastor of this Church had also shared with the masses. Shri L. Nukshi Jamir, founder Pastor of the church had also graced the celebration besides a host of friends and former members who had left to other locations in the past. In his speech, President of TATT Rev C. Temjen expressed his profound association with the church and wished the members another happy innings from this Silver Jubilee celebration. The event came to a close when the Eastern Theological College Ao Telongjem performed the Jubilee beating followed by community feast.
