Free cleft Mission camp at Oking Hospital
Kohima, February 25 (MExN): The 4th Free Cleft Mission Nagaland camp will be conducted on February 28 and 29 at Oking Hospital, Kohima for free cleft surgery by a team led by Dr. Palin Kh, Smile Train Plastic Surgeon, Shija Hospitals, Imphal.
Already 33 patients have been given smiles on their faces by the mission in the last 3 camps. Patients with the defects may report on February 28 or contact Oking Hospital, Kohima. Cleft Mission Nagaland is a triangular effort of Smile Train Shija Cleft Project, Manipur, Oking Hospital, Kohima and National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Government of Nagaland to eradicate birth defect of cleft lip and palate in the state of Nagaland. They live in shame, isolation and heartache. They usually don’t go to school because of the defect. They become normal after the repair like you and me. Many of them have become doctors, engineer, scientist, artists etc after the repair. It is estimated that more than 2500 patients are living with the defect in the state of Nagaland without any means to get it repaired.
The social workers, medias, church leaders, teachers and politicians have been requested to spread the message into the interior of the state of Nagaland that the defect can be repaired free of cost at Oking Hospital, Kohima and lead a second normal life.
