Training focus on enhancing food and nutritional security

Participating farmers and others during the training cum demonstration on System of Rice Intensification at Zungti Village on June 26. 
 
Dimapur, June 29 (MExN): The department of agriculture, Zunheboto on June 26 conducted training cum demonstration on System of Rice Intensification at Zungti Village for WTRC farmers.

DAO Zunheboto, G Kiyevi Aye stated that the main objective of the programme was to enhance the food and nutritional security and attain self-sufficiency by 2020. He also stated that under National Food Security Mission where rice, wheat and pulse were given emphasis, rice was the focused crop for NE state including Nagaland and Zunheboto being a rice growing district, urged the farmers for adopting new production technology such as SRI which has already been implemented in other district and have shown desired results.

In the technical session presentation on implementation of rice production system under SRI was conducted by L Kivika Chophi AO-II. Demonstration on rising of nursery under SRI technique, time and methods for transplating, main field preparation, line marking technique and advantages of conoweeder were shown and explained in detail.

Proposing the vote of thanks, Lutovi Sumi AO-II stated that the department will be conducting more demonstration on SRI in different villages for rice growers under Zunheboto district and also that constatnt evaluation, monitoring and reporting will be conducted for successful implementation. Altogether 25 rice growing farmers attended the said programme. This was stated in a press release issued by DAO Zunheboto, G Kiyevi Aye.
