NVCO alert on ‘forced’ Gas servicing personnel

Consumer complaints to 1800-345-3701

Dimapur, August 4 (MExN): A voluntary consumer’s organization has cautioned citizens against home appliances servicing personnel who trespass into houses on the pretext of checking burners and refitting the appliances for a fee “following an order from authority.” The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organization (NVCO) issued a note today highlighting such cases of marketing and has asked consumers to call 1800-345-3701 to lodge their complaints.

The circular from the NVCO received here today cited an incident that reportedly occurred on August 2 from a resident of Chandmari in Kohima. The consumer had complained that two persons claiming to be from Shara India Company had come to her house and “forcibly replaced the LPG Gas cooking pipe.” The complainant was unwilling to replace the pipe as it had been replaced only a few days earlier. However, the persons reportedly claimed that replacement was ‘compulsory’ due to an order from the authority, the NVCO said, narrating the consumers’ complaint. The said persons are said to have charged Rs.500 for the forced replacement as well as similar work in the neighborhood.

“Any citizen as a consumer can call to toll free No. 1800-345- 3701 if you feel cheated or felt any doubt on goods and services while buying, it is the State Consumer Helpline as central project been established by the state government in partnership with NVCO to solve the consumer problem by way of given advise, counseling, guidance, etc,” NVCO president Kezhokhoto Savi said in a note today.

The helpline is an alternate ‘remedy agency’ where citizens/consumers can seek redress for problems. The caller need not worry about the call charges. The NVCO lamented that although the calls do not charge anything

Nonetheless the NVCO lamented that calls from consumers in Nagaland are still “very poor” compared to those in other states. It is not that consumers in Nagaland don’t have any complaints but that they are generally unaware and do not bother to call to lodge complaints, the NVCO president added.
