Airfares hikes
Dimapur, August 18 (MExN): The ongoing crisis has turned out to be a blessing for Airlines. A travel agency has today disclosed that rumours of impending violence have doubled the demand of flight tickets on Bangalore-Guwahati and Bangalore-Kolkata routes, having a cascading effect on fares. Airfares on the Bangalore-Guwahati route have peaked to Rs 18,000 for a one-way ticket.
“Travel agents and online travel portals have seen a spike in enquiries to northeastern states from Bangalore in the past four days. Panic-stricken natives are believed to be scouting for the best available flight deals,” informed a press statement issued by Makemytrip Priority partner of Nagaland. Guwahati and Kolkata are the two major hubs connecting passengers to the northeast. Airfares on these sectors have been on the rise following the upcoming festive season. Fares on the Bangalore-Kolkata route are now around Rs 11,500 for a one-way ticket. The normal one-way fare on this sector is around Rs 6,000. There are over 12 flights to Kolkata from Bangalore. SpiceJet has one daily flight connecting Bangalore to Guwahati via Agartala, the press note stated.
