Army brings peace in Hailakandi dist
Dimapur, August 22 (MExN): In light of the anticipated deterioration of law and order situation in Hailakandi district, the civil administration requisitioned army for aid to civil authorities on August 19. Consequent to that the Masimpur based unit under the aegis of Halflong based Assam Rifles Sector deployed army in the Hailakandi District with effect from August 20 and commenced extensive area domination patrolling in sensitive areas.
A press note issued by Media Officer, HQ 3 CORPS stated that closed door meeting was carried out by Commander of Haflong Based Assam Rifles Sector Headquarter alongwith Commanding Officer of Masimpur based unit with the Deputy Inspector General Binod Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Hailakandi, S Theik, Superintendent of Police B Singha and ADC BC Das to assess the situation and decide course of action by army in the light of possible violence/ communal clashes.
As a result of the meeting additional troops were also moved in from other Districts to reinforce Hailakandi who worked in very close coordination with other security forces and the state police. Later on August 21, the dead bodies of three Muslim Youths was brought from Guwahati to Lala Bazar by road alongwith Police protection via Kalain - Algapur route and finally to Lala on NH-6 on August 22 in the early morning hours and handed over to the relatives.
The Security Forces of Masimpur based unit sanitized the complete route by active area domination patrolling thereby deterring congregation of any miscreants or Anti National Elements thus reducing the possibility of any communal clash. The prominent community and religious leaders also worked in close cooperation in ensuring untoward happenings with the security forces. This has helped in a big way in maintaining peace and tranquility in the region.
Thus, the proactive patrolling and timely action taken by the security forces not only ensured incident free Eid celebration on August 20 in the region but also ensured hassle free mov of bodies of three civilian Muslim Youths on August 2, which were thereafter handed over to the relatives in their native villages in the morning. The villagers took out a somber funeral procession and quiet burial took place by afternoon. Meanwhile the army showed its continuous presence in the area during day and night. The role of the Army and other security forces in bringing normalcy and maintaining peace has been widely appreciated by all sections of the society, the press note stated.
