Nagaland observes Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas
The state’s department of new & renewable energy today, August 22 observed Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas (Renewable Energy Day) here at the State Academy Hall, which was sponsored by Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India in commemoration of the birth anniversary of former prime minister Late Rajiv Gandhi.
Debate, singing and quiz competition propagating the importance of renewable energy marked the occasion.
Gracing the function as the chief guest MLA Dr. Nicky Kire, chairman Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries Board and advisor, Music Task Force said that realizing the necessity the DAN government has created the new and renewable energy department, which is the first of its kind in the country to have a separate department on new and renewable energy.
Dr. Kire also lauded the department for undertaking various projects across the state and hoped that the department will grow from strength to strength and meet the expectation of the people.
He made special mention of the department’s effort in installing solar power in many directorate buildings, hydro projects, solar heating, biogas, wind energy etc. and further urged the department to seriously take up their work and show the people that they are making changes.
Dr.Kire maintained that the rising popularity of New & Renewable Energy is a paradigm shift towards alternative means of energy.
The world’s energy crisis is likely to rise from diminishing fossil fuels, he said adding we all need to play a major role to sustain energy.
“We do not really realize how much we are contributing to global warming and we should be more responsible towards this cause instead of blaming the government all the time”, he said.
Er. Kavito Chishi. Asst. Director (H) DNRE in his introductory speech highlighted the efforts and achievements of the department and stressed on the need to have a very sustainable renewable energy policy in the state.
MLA Deo Nukhu, advisor, New & Renewable Energy, Er. T.S. Angami, Director New & Renewable Energy were among the others present at the function.
The programme was chaired Joint Director (H) DNRE. Er. Vitoshe Rochill while Asst. Director (H) DNRE, Er. Renilo Nuh proposed the vote of thanks.
