CEO Nagaland launches SVEEP Plan

Kohima, September 20 (DIPR): The Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland, J. Alam on September 20 launched the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Plan for special summary revision of Electoral Roll with reference to January 1, 2013 as the qualifying date at Hotel Vivor (IG Stadium Road), Kohima.
The CEO also had a meeting with all recognised National and State Political Parties in connection with the current special summary revision of Electoral Roll with reference to January 1, 2013 as the qualifying date and also had an interaction on the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities.
Addressing the meeting, the CEO said that the Election Commission of India has decided to take up the revision of Photo Electoral Rolls with reference to January 1, 2013 as the qualifying date. He further said that the revision shall be a special summary revision in all the States and Union Territories (except Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh) and shall be undertaken in accordance with ERO’s Handbook 2008 plus any subsequent instructions of the Election Commission of India with regard to revision of Electoral roll/registration of voters.
He informed that there are seven stages of revision and the Schedule of revision of electoral roll for 2013 shall be as follows: Draft publication of rolls - 1st October 2012; Period for filling of claims and objection; Reading of relevant part/section of photo electoral roll in Gram Sabha/Local bodies and RWA meeting etc and verification of names - 1st - 31st October 2012; Special campaign dates with booth level agents of political parties for receiving claims and objections - 7th - 14th October and 21st October 2012; Disposal of claims and objections by 1st December 2012; Updating the database, merging of photographs, updating the control tables and preparation and printing of supplementary list - from 1st - 31st December 2012; Final publication of Electoral Rolls - 5th January 2013.
The meeting concluded with an interaction on the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities between the Chief Electoral Officer, political parties and various NGOs. The programme was chaired by Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland Lithrongla G. Chishi who also delivered the welcome address.
