Dimapur defeats United Sikkim
Kohima | November 24 : Dimapur District XI cruised into the semi-finals of the ongoing Royal Gold Cup handing out a 2-0 defeat to United Sikkim Sporting Club in the last quarter-final match played here today. Dimapur District XI has sets up a semi-final clash with Veteran Sporting Club, Phek who were awarded a walk-over after Citizen Club Manipur failed to show up for the quarter-final match.
Dominating the first half, Dimapur took an early lead through Akum Ao, who converted off a spot-kick awarded for a hand-ball committed by rival defender Lakpam Sherpa inside the D-Box in the 12th minute. The Dimapur boys extended their lead when Rabi sent home the second goal in the 25th minute. A golden opportunity for Sikkim to narrow the lead was missed by Gyanendra Karki in the 30th minute and Sikkim failed to convert even as it dominated the second half. The match saw Pushpa Gurung of Sikkim and Das and Rabi of Dimapur being yellow-carded for foul play.
Meanwhile, Wednesday’ first semi-final match between New Market XI and defending champions, Nagaland Police promises to be a truly exciting match as both appear to be evenly-matched. Expectations are that the winner of the match will lift the trophy.
