Champs & amateurs to wrestle at 23rd CWA meet
Phek | February 8: The 23rd wrestling tournament of the Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) is scheduled from February 16 to 17 at Pfutsero Town.
Two former area champions - Surhonieyi Soho of Phek Village from Phek Area, who was a five-time champion and Zanuo Vadeo of Porba Village from Suceku Area, two-time champion will also wrestle for the title. Also other three champions include, Pfusato Tetseo of K.Bawe Village from Chokri area, Vetazo Veswuh of Suthozu Village from Chozuba area and Lhikhrope Kenye of Zapami village from Khezha area on hectic preparation to face the challenging tasks.
Apart from the area champions, veterans and other prominent wrestlers like, CWA defending champion Besuto Khusoh, Vevolhu from Chokri area, Zhokho Lala, Vekuzo Vezhu, Musuto Tenyi from Phek area, Kukuo Getsa, Sazonyi Tureng, Besuvo Vadeo, Nepoyi Chiero from Suceku area etc were confirmed to fight for the coveted title.
It has been informed that heavy weight wrestlers like Surhoneyi Soho, reigning champion of 6th & 7th Naga Open Wrestling championship, runners up in 22nd NWA Meet, runner up in 5th Naga Open wrestling championship, 2009 Hornbill Naga Wrestling Champion and also 2009 Hornbill Naga-Korean (Sisireum) Wrestling Champion, Besuto Khusoh, defending CWA champion, 6th Naga Open Wrestling Championship runner up, 22nd NWA Meet fourth place, Kukuo Getsa, 20th NWA Meet runner up and Zhokho Lala, 2010 Hornbill Naga Wrestling Championship runner up etc will also compete at the CWA 23rd meet.
Reliably learnt from sources that, enhancement of prize money has indeed attracted many wrestlers from all corners to the CWA meet. Some experts analysed that this year’s wrestling tournaments both in village and state level had tough competition, that in some tournaments the top wrestlers were defeated. However, it has motivated upcoming wrestlers to be more cautious in later tournaments.
According to some wrestling fans, the CWA’s fixture to conduct the wrestling matches in a day would not be successful since the number of wrestlers from each area have increased from eight to 12, where altogether 60 wrestlers (12X5=60) from five areas would wrestle at least 104 rounds, either 208 or 312 bouts would wrestles which indeed would consume either 2X208=416 minutes or 2X312=624 minutes (more than six hours to 10 hours or more approximately) on rough calculation.
The best four wrestlers will pocketed a sum of 2,00000/- (Rupees two laks only), categorizing as 1st prize-1,00000/- sponsored by Kuzholuzo Nienu, Minister for Health & Family Welfare, government of Nagaland, 2nd prize-50,000/- sponsored by Z.Lohe, Political Advisor to Chief Minister, Nagaland, 3rd prize-30,000/- sponsored by Neposo Thuluo, Joint Secretary, Rural Development, Nagaland and 4th prize-20,000/- sponsored by Dr. Kevichüsa Medikhrü, Joint Director, NRHM, Nagaland.
