Life Sports keep title chase alive, Doyang upset Komets

Life Sports FC handed a 2-1 defeat to Dynamic FC Saturday at the DDSC coming
within reach for a shot at third-place in the NPL team standings. This time
again, it was T. Haokip, who ensured Life Sports is still in the reckoning at
the NPL with four matchdays to go.
A 29th minute strike from George enabled Dynamic to take the lead. The 40-yard
strike surprised everyone but it was short-lived as T. Haokip struck back with a
vengeance only three minutes later. Haokip, who has a knack for sniffing out
goals, made it look easy catching the rival custodian midway.  The goalie came
up to counter Haokip’s inroad up front only to allow the shot to go over his
head and pass the goal line.
Earlier, with the score reading nil-nil, Dynamic nearly scored. Striker
Matthew’s shot was blocked by the goal-keeper. The return from jersey number
29 Pito was cleared from the goal line, this time by defender Daveikho.  Haokip
showed his magic again in the 35th flicking the ball, with his back to goal and
a rival defender right behind, to an unmarked Daniel in the 20-yard area. The
resultant attempt at goal however goes wide. Dynamic, relying heavily on Matthew
in attack made some promising forays towards goal but came up unsuccessful. In
the 58th Haokip sealed victory successfully converting a cross from N. Sale.
In the other game played in Dimapur, Kohima Komets lost to Doyang FC by a
solitary goal. The fate of the match was decided by a spot-kick, which was
awarded to Dynamic following a hand-ball foul in the Komets goal area. The
penalty was successfully converted by Yhunshalo.
Results of Matchday 14 also ruffled the team standings in the league table.
Barak Flamingoz went a place up to snatch second-place from Dimapur United, the
latter suffering a 1-0 loss at the hands of the former in Mokokchung. United’s
defeat means fourth-placed Life Sports is just three points short to United’s
30. Flamingoz is now 32 points, two short of leader FC Naga Tornadoes. In the
lower rungs, Doyang FC (17 points) dislodged Zonipang SA (15 points) for a place
in the top-five. Sangpang FC (16 points) came two places up to sixth. Zonipang
and Kohima Komets (14 points) are now relegated to seventh and eighth followed
by Dynamic (11 points), and New Market (1 point) trailing far behind with only a
drawn game to boast of.
