Kohima town inter ward football & volleyball tourney ends
Minister Azo says sporting spirit is more important
The 3rd Kohima Town Inter Ward Football & Volleyball Tournament 2012 concluded here this afternoon with minister for health & family welfare Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu as the chief guest.
This tournament was organised by Naga People’s Front (NPF), 9th Kohima Town Assembly Constituency. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said every sportsman dream is to win and become the champion. He said that winning can be a wonderful experience and it can be one of the proudest moments for anyone of us but at the same time never ever underestimate the value of loosing because it can teach us many more things than success. Azo said the more important for him is to have the sporting spirit.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Dr. Nicky Kire, MLA, 9th Kohima Town A/C.
Special number was president by Imtisenla, Naga Orpheus 2011 finalist while vote of thanks was proposed by Alo Yakhro, president Farmers Wing, NPF, NPF 9th Kohima Town A/C. Earlier, the function was chaired by Sedengulie Kintso, general secretary NPF, 9th Kohima Town A/C. Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) deputy speaker Ralanthung also graced the closing ceremony. In football (Men), Ward No. 14 lifted the champion trophy after defeating Ward No. 17 by 7 goals to nil in the final match. Winning the coveted champion title, Ward No. 14 was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 with a running trophy while the runner-up Ward No. 17 pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 20,000 alongwith running trophy.
In Volleyball (Women), Ward No. 4 beat Ward No. 19. to lift the champion title. The champion fetched Rs. 20,000 with running trophy while the runner-up was awarded with Rs. 10,000 with running trophy. Meanwhile, a music competition will take place on June 27 at 5:00 PM at the State Academy Hall, Kohima with former DGP K. Kire as the special guest. Band competition will be held on June 27 while Solo & Self-composed competition will take place on June 28.
