Nagaland: DNSU asks Excise Commissioner to strictly implement NLTP Act

Dimapur, February 21 (MExN):  The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Commissioner of Excise, Dimapur, demanding that stringent action is taken to close down all liquor shops/outlets and check inflow of liquor in Dimapur.

In a press release received on Friday, the DNSU said that the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989 “is found to be just theoretical and not practical in nature since its inception,” and claimed that the Excise Department “had shown enough leniencies towards the sellers/producers/suppliers of liquor in Dimapur.”

The DNSU and its constituents/units unanimously resolved to serve 7 days ultimatum to the Commissioner of Excise, Dimapur, to close down all the liquor shops, outlets and thoroughly check the flow of liquor in Dimapur and to strictly adhere with the rules and regulations laid down under NLTP Act, 1989, the release stated.

“Further, on failure to comply with this ultimatum, the union will take its own course of action for which the concerned department will be held solely responsible for any untoward consequences,” it said.
