Noisy Motorcycles causing Public Nuisance

Dimapur seems to be progressing at a good rate these recent years in various aspects. And it is very much encouraging to see civil servants and citizens work side by side to make our city a vibrant one.

However, there seems to be one in many other aspect in which the authorities seems to be neglecting. i.e Noise pollution

Keeping in view of the elderly ones, ill patients, and over all a sense of serenity in Our city. I would like to appeal to the concerned authority to take up this matter with great importance and follow up with an efficient action.

I am very sure the motorbike Lovers would like to zoom up and down their ride making large unnecessary noises and it seems to be very fun to me as well. But I suppose there could be some restrictions and some civic sense to not make the sound of our Motorvehicles as large as those firecrackers. It almost seems as though it's Christmas and Diwali everyday.

Under the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986, 80 decibels is the maximum noise limit for motorcycles and scooters. But, bikers who use modified silencers on their vehicles violate the norms. A bike fitted with modified silencer produces noise that is at least of 120 decibels and often above 130 decibels.

Stringent action should be taken against the defaulters by the Traffic Police.

Thank you!

For the sake of all the peace loving denizens.
