One nation one language policy a threat to linguistic & cultural identify of NE: AICC

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 18 (MExN): The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Wednesday said the recent push from the BJP president for Hindi under one nation one language clearly poses a threat to the linguistic and cultural identity of North East India. He added that this would also undoubtedly infringe national integrity.

There is a reason why unity in diversity is used for India but the BJP government is hell-bent on destroying this unity, AICC general secretary, in-charge of North East states, Luizinho Faleiro alleged in a press statement. He said the move was out rightly undemocratic and would break the very essence of the nation’s formation.

Faleiro pointed out that the North East is one of the richest regions in India both culturally and linguistically. Terming it an incredible fact that over 200 languages are spoken in the region with each state having its own culture with hundreds of tribes and sub tribes, Faleiro said it is “our duty to preserve and protect this unique identity for posterity.”

Falriro also put on record that the constitution clearly respects India’s diversity as it recognizes 22 languages spoken by a large number of people, however added that in its attempt to further its agenda of destroying the pluralistic fabric of the country, the BJP is ready to insult the constitution as well.

Vowing to resist such imposition, Faleiro said it expect all PCC chiefs to organize strong protest in coming days at all levels- state capitals and district headquarters.
