Farmers learning through intra district exposure
The farmers of Ongpangkong North Block during an intra district Exposure visit to State Agriculture Research Station (SARS) Yisemyong was organised on July 15.
Mokokchung, July 19 (MExN): An intra district Exposure visit to State Agriculture Research Station (SARS) Yisemyong was organised on July 15, 2009 by Ongpangkong North Block of ATMA Mokokchung. Altogether 19 farmers, including four (4) women of Ongpangkong North Block participated in the programme. The participants visited the public private partnership farm of Chuchuyimpang Baptist church and ATMA mokokchung, landscape, experimental plots, model organic farm, watershed area, tea husbandry and processing unit of SARS and the instructional farm of KVK Mokokchung.
At the PPP farm the farmers were shown potato and maize cultivation. Among the different farming activities that were given an exposure to the farmers were designing and maintenance of landscape, water harvesting and storage for irrigation, papaya cultivation, banana cultivation, broom grass cultivation its economic benefits, titonia plantation for jhum fallow management, maize cultivation, different systems of intercropping practices, vermin composting, organic farming, floriculture, watershed management, System of Rice intensification (SRI) method of paddy cultivation.
The Project Director ATMA Mokokchung who is also the Project Officer SARS interacted with the farmers. At SARS Nungsang, Research Officer, Mar, Junior Plant Breeder, Krisi, Assistant Entomologist and Nochetla, Agriculture officer were the key persons who described the different activities of SARS to the farmers. At the KVK instructional farm Samuel Sangtem, SMS agronomy interacted with the farmers. The farmers were accompanied by Aodangba BTT Convenor and a BTT member of the block. In the evening a film show on SRI was shown followed by feedback and discussion with the farmers which was facilitated by Dr.Rongsen BTT member with Samuel Sangtem and Nakhro, SMS extension of KVK Mokokchung.
