Teachers Day Celebration Across Nagaland



Longleng
 Longleng District along with the rest of the country celebrated the 47th Teachers Day at Lempong Hall, Longleng Town, on September 5 with Deputy Commissioner Longleng, Nihekhu Sema, as the chief guest, while Dr. Ajaya Kumar, Lecturer at Yingli College, was the main speaker. The day-long function witnessed 21 school teachers being felicitated with the ‘Teachers Day Award’, while over 56 students from various schools and colleges received Meritorious Certificates for their good academic performance. Phumnyu Government Middle School was felicitated for best performance – having nil dropout students from the school since 2004-2007.
 
Mangkolemba
A special Teachers Day programme was held at Mangkolemba public hall today, organised by the Mangkolemba Town Students Union, in honour of teachers. As the main speaker, Talitemsu, EE (PWD) Mangkolemba, praised the teachers for their duties and sacrifices towards the upliftment of society “in achieving human civilisation along with time.” He encouraged and called upon teachers to bear the torch for a better tomorrow with more devotion. Six teachers were awarded the Zonal Level Award by the DIS Mangkolemba for excellence in their service. The awardees included Visheto Awomi, TOT, EBRC Mangkolemba; Lolenkala, Asstt. Teacher, GHS Mangkolemba; Talisenla, Teacher-in-charge, GPS Japhu; T Asangla, Teacher, Baptist HSS Mangkolemba; Jongpongtoshi, GPS Moayimti, and Nungsangmongba, GPS Molongkimong. A variety of stage performances were presented by students of different schools in honour of the teachers.

Jalukie
Teachers day celebrations were held at Government HSS Jalukie. The highlights of the programme included dances, fashion show, presentation of special numbers, chorography, etc. Paying rich tributes to the teachers, students delivered speeches and presented entertainment items. Christian School Jalukie, ITM School, St. Xavier HSS, Baptist High School and Parail Valley School also celebrated Teachers Day.

Mon
Teachers Day was celebrated at Mon at the council hall, organised by the Education Department, Mon. Deputy Commissioner Mon, Dinesh Kumar, IAS, was the chief guest. In his speech, he said teaching is the best profession in the world, adding that teachers are the role models for the students and society, and that they shouldered a huge responsibility that every teacher should take seriously. He urged the teachers to give their best and perform their duties well for the development of society. He also urged the students to imbibe good habits like respecting the teachers, discipline, sincerity and regularity in performing their duties, adding that celebrating Teachers’ Day should not only be a formality, but should be significant.  The teachers awarded with District Award 2008 are Chinge Konyak, of GPS Wanching, C Lokpon Konyak, GPS Chingha, Y Nokong Konyak, GMS Mon town, M K Sen, GMS Luakkun, Ramjan Ali, GMS Upper Tiru, A Nokpoh Konyak, GPS Tingalibam, H Chingnyem Konyak, of GPS Papong, and Aienma George of St. Francis School, Tizit.

Peren
Government High School, Peren, celebrated Teachers Day remembering the great leader Dr. S Radhakrishnan. The programme had Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Noksen, as the chief guest.In his address, the DC said teachers should be sincere, hardworking and a role model for the students as they are the pillars of the community. DIS Peren, Apeina, gave the introductory speech and highlighted the census of the students and teachers under Peren district, including the performance of the GHS and GSLC examination. GHS Peren also honoured ex-teachers, Rev. Beuhing and Sarangbe. Sinel Len Heigumbuing was given the District Award with cash and certificate.

Tuensang
Tuensang today held the Teachers Day 2008 celebration programme at its town hall. Advisor to commissioners, Supreme Court of India, Dr. K Chingmak, graced the function as chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Chingmak called upon the Government teachers to involve themselves in their work with more sincerity. He briefed about the significance of Teachers’ Day and narrated the life story of Dr. Radhakrishnan and advice given to teachers by former President of India, Dr. Abdul Kalam. He urged teachers to be more committed to their duties and mould the lives of the students in right way.

Other highlights included presentation of awards to the teachers by the chief guest, welcome address by DEO Tuensang, Tohoshe Sumi, honouring of teachers by Baptist Thangyan School, songs and cultural presentations.
