Demand for ILP system in Manipur
Imphal | November 18 : The much hyped reaching of railway line to Manipur which may happen soon be considered as a sign of development but it can also be a threat to the very existence of the indigenous people of the state. According to Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) member RK Rajendra, the people of Manipur will face hardship tackling the influx of migrants into the state with the coming of trains.
RK Rajendra was speaking during the observation of Permit System Deprivation Day on Wednesday in Imphal. The MHRC member alerted the people of the state before it is too late to choke out means so that the Manipuris do not face a bleak future. On the occasion the participants said that once the Inner Line Permit System is effectively implemented, the influx of migrants can be checked for good.
Observing at the North East level, the intellectuals who participated in today's programme alleged that since the number of the Members of Parliament (MPs) representing the region are very less, the Central government ignores the plights of the people of the North East. Organised by Inner Line Demand Committee, the participants of today's programme hail from United Committee, Manipur (UCM), FREINDS, MHRC etc. etc.
It can be noted that FREINDS, an organisation based in Manipur has also been spear-heading while demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur so that the influx of 'outsiders' into this small state can be checked. Former UCM chief Sapamcha Jadumani had founded the organisation.
