Three apprehended by Dimapur police for illegal collection
DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 25 (MExN): In yet another case of extortion, East Police personnel on Tuesday at around 10:00 pm arrested three extortionists at Ghorapatti, Dimapur. The arrested persons were later identified as Langshe Khiam Shio, ‘ss’ Major, NSCN (IM), Echem Khiam, Chairman, Village Council, Wui, Shamator and Deepak Mech.
It was revealed that on November 20, Phagulal Singh, Member of Panchayat Council, Bokajan who had come to Dimapur for shopping was abducted by four miscreants at Army Supply Junction opposite Traffic Point. On hearing the information, the wife of the victim lodged an FIR at Bokajan Police station on November 21, but the OC of Bokajan PS forwarded the case to East Police Station. Subsequently the relative of the victim came with the FIR to the East Police Station where the action plan was made to rescue the victim. It was alleged that the miscreants had demanded Rs 50 lakhs for his release. However, after a long negotiation between the abductors and the victim’s family, the ransom money was reduced to 25 lakhs but the victim’s wife could arrange Rs 2 lakhs. She then brought the amount at Ghorapatti to hand over to the abductors. However, before the transaction took place, the abductors were arrested red-handed by the alerted East Police personnel. The victim was later rescued from the residence of Langshe Khiam Shio, ‘ss’ Major, NSCN (IM) at Boro Lengri, Karbi Anglong. Three accused were reportedly absconding.
Meanwhile, the OC of the East Police Station has expressed gratitude to the Airtel for providing tower logging, call details and subscriber ID of the accused.
