Look for self- employment: Panger
Kohima | December 12 : Viewing the trend of the major chunk of educated unemployed youths looking for only government job, N. Panger Jamir, director of employment & training department today said that employment in government sector is very negligible adding that no government can provide jobs to all its citizens. Towards, this, he called upon the youth to change their mindset and focus on other areas of employment.
Speaking at the silver jubilee celebration of the Educated Unemployed Union Nagaland (EUUN) here at Red Cross Complex, Jamir said that employment means not only the government job and called upon the youth to engage themselves in self employment ventures. Stating that educational qualification alone is not enough to get jobs and at the same time regretting that many educated youth are not employable due to lack of basic skills, he stressed on the need to focus on skill development.
He maintained that once they are equipped with skills, they would find jobs anywhere in the world. Also stressing on the need to adopt work culture, he said “Unless you are willing to work you are not going to survive.” Touching on over age, he told the youth not to feel discourage even if they are in the situation of over age for government job and encouraged them to take alternative steps for employment in other sectors.
Over age should be not stumbling block…, he said, adding that there is always room for employment in various agencies if they are mentally and physically fit. He also advised the parents not to solely rely on getting government jobs for their children but to encourage them to take up self employment ventures also to progress in society. Regretting that Naga youth have the tendency to prefer not to engage in manual work, he said there is no shame in doing manual work.
Also, pointing out that a large number of non-locals are currently engaged in manual work, including in construction, electrification, cobbling, running shops etc, earning through manual labour, he urged the Naga youth to wake up and engage themselves in such kind of activities for self-sustenance.
Also stating that the department has granted self-employment assistance to 8158 educated unemployed youth in the state, he called for proper implementation of the same. There is no dearth of assisting self-employment ventures if they are determined to work, he said.
Also speaking on the occasion, Sano Vamuzo, chairperson Nagaland Women Commission said that the EUUN is fighting for their right and also fighting for the welfare of the younger generation. She, however, said that the educated unemployed youth must not expect job from government side alone.
In this, she encouraged them to look for self-employment venture. EUUN president Achilo Thong stressed on the need to unitedly fight for securing justice and also more opportunities. He also read out messages from Governor Nikhil Kumar, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and chief secretary Lalthara. Earlier, founder president Rev. Dr. Kasheto Aye highlighted the brief history of the union.
The function was chaired by Khohoto Sema, chairman Silver Jubilee Committee.
